All About Microdosing
If you’ve ever wondered what microdosing is, why it might call to you, or how spiritual counseling can support this journey, let’s explore.
My Personal Journey
About nine years ago, my world was turned upside down when my Mom unexpectedly passed. The grief dragged me into the underworld as I simultaneously faced the consequences of a serious car accident and bankruptcy. I was navigating unbearable pain without a map. When a friend suggested microdosing, something in me whispered, it’s worth a try.
Though I had a recreational yet positive relationship with mushrooms in my younger years, this was different. Information on microdosing at the time was sparse—just a few Reddit threads. Trusting my intuition, I capsuled my own medicine, followed a protocol, and kept meticulous notes on the process.
Microdosing didn’t erase my pain, but it shifted my perspective. It showed me how I was compounding my suffering, gently brought my suppressed grief to the surface, and reconnected me with the wisdom of my heart. The mushrooms didn’t “fix” me; instead, they became sacred allies in my healing, helping me save myself.
Since then, my relationship with plant medicine has continued to deepen — through personal experience, academic study, guiding others, and master plant dietas. One of the highlights of my M.A. program was presenting on how to bring a trauma-informed and reverent approach to the therapeutic psychedelic space.
What is microdosing?
Microdosing involves working with a sub-perceptual dose of medicine over a set period of time, following a structured protocol. While there are many psychedelic medicines you can microdose, I specifically work with psilocybin aka magic mushrooms 🍄
The intention isn’t to experience drastic changes overnight but rather to notice subtle, meaningful shifts in how you think, feel, and connect with yourself and the world. The magic is in the mundane—recognizing beliefs that have been holding you back or opening your eyes to beauty and gratitude in places you once overlooked.
Studies and brain scans show that psilocybin disrupts old neural connections, encouraging new ones to form. This process can help you rewire unhelpful patterns, fostering greater self awareness, creativity, and resilience.
Some Reported Benefits of Microdosing:
Reconnection to self, others, and nature
Greater introspection & self-awareness
Enhanced cognitive flexibility and creativity.
Improved mood, focus, and productivity.
A sense of openness and heart connection.
Improved sleep and restfulness
Release of fears, anxieties, and limiting beliefs.
New perspectives and a deeper appreciation for life.
Microdosing is Sacred
It’s not about escapism or quick fixes. You are not taking a drug. You are cultivating a relationship with a plant spirit and inviting healing into your life with reverence.
To approach microdosing mindfully, I encourage you to:
Set clear intentions for what you want to explore or heal
Create rituals that bring presence to your practice
Journal and reflect on your experiences
Integrate your lessons—true transformation happens when insights are brought into everyday life
So, why work with a guide?
There are SO many free resources out there now – bless! That being said, having support can make all the difference. While this journey is deeply personal, a guide can help you feel confident in your protocol, process emotions that arise, and integrate teachings in ways that support lasting transformation.
