Destigmatizing Grief

Grief is a complex, deeply human experience, often misunderstood and inadequately supported by society.

This 12-hour grief-informed training, led by Brie and Katie, will help you deepen your understanding of grief — whether for personal growth or professional enhancement. Together, we'll explore grief from various perspectives; emphasizing how to hold grief in a non-pathologized way and fostering a compassionate, informed approach to this essential aspect of life.

Our Syllabus

understanding grief:

Explore the fundamental question of what grief means to you personally, and engage with the concept of “gates of grief”—the various emotional, psychological, and spiritual entry points that shape our individual experiences of loss.

cultural dimensions:

Discover how different cultures understand, express, and process grief, and how these cultural perspectives can inform and broaden your own approach to grieving.

societal & psychological dimenions:

Examine the influence of societal norms and expectations on the grieving process, and recognize the diversity of grief experiences across different social contexts. Understand how psychological factors interplay with societal pressures to shape how we experience and express grief.

grief as a whole-istic process:

Gain insight into grief as a comprehensive, interconnected process that encompasses various types of grief. We’ll take a look at the nuances of grieving as an individual versus within a community, and the importance of both.

generational & ancestral grief:

Explore the impact of grief that is passed down through generations, understanding how ancestral grief can influence present-day experiences.

trauma-sensitive lens:

Delve into the ways in which the trauma of grief affects the nervous system and overall well-being. This type of education is so important to contextualize the experience of grief and gain trauma-sensitive approaches to supporting both yourself and others.

additional resources:

Receive further resources, including readings and practices, to both continue your journey and help you integrate what you’ve learned into your life and work.

Our intention in creating this training is to offer you:

New Perspectives: Gain a deeper understanding of grief's cultural and personal dimensions, challenging societal norms and stigmas surrounding grief.

An Inside-Out Approach: There will be ample reflection and introspection; empowering you to meet others with the depth and authenticity that comes only from having courageously navigated your own inner landscape.

Deeper Compassion: Develop greater empathy and the capacity to hold space for both your own grief and the grief of others with authenticity and care.

Education & Tools: Learn practical tools to create safe, supportive environments for grieving, along with techniques to navigate conversations about grief with greater awareness.

Transformed Relationship to Grief: Through reflection, introspection, and hands-on experience, cultivate a more compassionate, empowered relationship with grief that honors its place in the human experience.

Community Support: Understand the importance of community in the grieving process and how to foster a collective, non-pathologized approach to holding grief.
