The Practice of Letting Go

After my mom passed, I had to clean out her home and ended up taking a lot of her furniture and belongings - really just to feel closer.

Fast forward to a over a year later, our apartment was overfilled with furniture that didn’t feel like us. I would walk into friends’ homes and feel envious of how beautifully decorated their space looked but at the root of that envy, was a feeling of sadness that I had the unusual task at the age of 26 to store all of my childhood and parents’ belongings.

One day I had a gut feeling, it was time. My parents’ bed frame was particularly hard to let go of and I kept asking for signs. An older man from Facebook marketplace asked to buy it and when I said yes he must’ve thanked me a hundred times over. He told me that he’d treasure it and how much it meant to him. Little did he know how much it meant to me. It was a sweet moment and it was my sign.

Once I cleared out the space, I felt so much freer. It felt like a new chapter.

Material objects are just that. Do they carry energy? Surely, but as your energy evolves so does your relationship to the energy around you. & every now and then you’ve gotta assess: what am I ready to let go of?

As I’ve become more connected to my parents spirits, I’ve learned that I don’t really need objects to keep them close. I’ve still got items I treasure, of course.

Maybe if you’re holding on to something you’re ready to let go of, this can be your sign. And if you’re not ready, know that that’s okay too. Stay open to the signs and trust that those we love truly never go away.
